Sophomore guard Jaron Martin of West Hills Chaminade might be an most-valuable-player candidate in the Mission League even though the Eagles are 0-11 in league play.

That’s how well Martin has been playing this season. He’s averaging 20.3 points and is coming off a 30-point performance on Monday in a 64-60 loss to St. Francis.

Martin is only 5 feet 8, but he keeps finding ways to score and contribute despite receiving lots of scrutiny on the court.

‘That kid is phenomenal,’ Coach Todd Wolfson said. ‘He’s getting triple- and double-teamed.’

Chaminade is 12-14 and still likely to make the Southern Section Division 4AA playoffs, which means the Eagles could be a tough opening playoff opponent.

‘We still fight every game,’ Wolfson said. ‘It’s just the toughness of the Mission League.’
