Boys’ basketball: Division III final tied after 1st quarter

Bruce English and Grant Jerrett have four points apiece for La Verne Lutheran, which is tied with Oakland Bishop O’Dowd 8-8 through one quarter of play in the state Division III championship game at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento.

The game should showcase the skills of Jerrett and Bishop O’Dowd junior forward Brandon Ashley. Each has made his presence felt early, as Ashley scored the first basket of the game and Jerrett answered with a dunk at the other end.
