Track & Field: Santee runners sweep City 3,200 races

Santee seniors Omar Cortez and Charlene Quintanilla won the boys’ and girls’ 3,200-meter races at the City Section Track & Field Championships in Lake Balboa.

Cortez ran the eight laps in 9:26.13. Grant Stromberg of Palisades, who was fourth last year and just missed qualifying for the state meet, was second in 9:30.17.

Quintanilla won the girls’ race in 11:18.31 and Falcons’ teammate Crystal Morales was second in 11:24.77.

With only the 4x400 relays remaining, Dorsey has locked up the boys’ team competition with points 100 points, far in front of Birmingham (34.5) and Palisades (28).

Carson is running away with the girls’ competition with 83 points. Taft and Palisades are tied for second with 55 points each.
