Baseball: Dramatic victories and crushing defeats

Top-seeded Palm Desert advanced to the Southern Section Division 4 semifinals by pulling out a 6-4 victory over La Habra Sonora in the 10th inning on a two-out walk-off two-run home run by Brooks Kriske.

Palm Desert came into the bottom of the 10th trailing by a run. Ryan Garvey led off with a single and scored on a Dave Schuknechts double. Kriske also threw eight innings on the mound.

Oaks Christian defeated Laguna Beach, 6-3. Trevor Gretzky had two doubles. Drew Hacker had three RBIs.

In Division 5, Van Nuys Montclair Prep had a 2-1 lead over Lompoc in the bottom of the seventh, there were two outs and no one on base. Then Lompoc rallied to pull out a 3-2 victory. Ryan Bower struck out 11 to beat Max Fried.

In Division 3, Justin Garza improved to 13-0 with a two-hitter to lead La Verne Bonita past San Gorgonio, 7-0.

In Division 2, Etiwanda defeated Redlands in 10 innings, 3-2. Santa Barbara got a complete game from Danny Zandona, home runs from Zandona, Spencer Fraker and Lucas Benenati, plus three hits from Cameron Gniadek, to defeat North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, 7-2.

Mission Viejo defeated La Verne Damien, 12-2. Willie Kuhl struck out 11, Boog Powell had three hits and Austin Saenz added two hits.
