Head coach Vic Eumont came to Studio City Harvard-Westlake from Louisiana six years ago, and he has learned, ‘Every day is a new adventure.’

His football players made good progress during the summer. In one of their final passing tournament games, they led highly regarded Mission Hills Alemany before losing at the Valley College tournament.

On Carmaggedon Day last weekend, the Wolverines held their final practice in the morning, then were let go for the rest of the summer. And that means players began to scatter to all parts of the world, traveling to Europe, Asia, Africa . . .

‘They go every which way,’ Eumont said.

They’re supposed to stay in shape for their return to football practice on Aug. 8. The Wolverines could be much improved. Junior quarterback Chad Kanoff has three solid receivers in juniors Clinton Hooks and Chris Sebastian and sophomore Julian Shabahang. And running backs Jamias Jones and Correy King are back from injuries.

Harvard-Westlake is known for its academics and successful sports program, but football has been the toughest sport to build a consistent winning program.

Eumont had his team playing top programs all summer, trying to prepare the players for the tough Mission League this fall. Come August, he’ll begin to find out if the players learned from their summer experiences at home and abroad.
