No program teases its fans more than Bellflower St. John Bosco. The Braves always seem to have lots of talent and be on the verge of being a top team, only to self-destruct in big games.

Well, the real Trinity League play begins on Friday for Braves with a home game against Santa Ana Mater Dei, and it’s another opportunity for St. John Bosco to get a break-through victory.

‘We definitely need to find a signature win in this league,’ Coach Jason Negro said.

Negro replaced Kiki Mendoza two years ago, and is trying to do what Mendoza couldn’t _ get the Braves into the Trinity League playoff mix.

At times, St. John Bosco (5-1) looks very good. The Braves have terrific receivers, led by Bryce Treggs. There’s speed and talent throughout the lineup. Last season, they led in three Trinity League games only to lose in the fourth quarter.

But in their one big nonleague test this season, they made turnovers and penalties and lost to Los Angeles Loyola, 28-14. So there’s lots of doubts whether the Braves can raise their level to win against some very good opponents in the Trinity League.

‘The biggest thing we need to do is not get caught in the moment and play the way we’ve been playing,’ Negro said.
