It’s been a long time since St. John Bosco defeated Mater Dei. Patrick Cowan was the Braves’ quarterback, and the year was 2002.

St. John Bosco could be on the way to another triumph over the Monarchs, taking a 10-0 halftime lead. Davonte Young has 61 yards and a touchdown in 13 carries and the Braves kicked a 35-yard field goal to build their two-score lead.

The Monarchs’ first drive was their best. They reached the St. John Bosco 14-yard line before linebacker Nicholas Hastert sacked Ryan McMahon for a 13-yard loss on fourth down. McMahon’s fourth-down pass fell incomplete, giving the ball to the Braves.

St. John Bosco converted two fourth downs on its ensuing drive, which ended with Young’s five-yard touchdown run. Medina has completed five of 14 passes for 75 yards with one interception.

Receiver Bryce Treggs has four catches for 66 yards, including a 25-yard reception on fourth and 10. McMahon has completed five of 13 passes for 49 yards and the Mater Dei running game has struggled, gaining a combined 45 yards in 18 carries.
