Never in Coach Mike Boehle’s 14 years as volleyball coach at Los Angeles Loyola has he had five players sign with major-college programs. Until now.

USC picked up commitments from setter Michael Mullahey and outside hitter Alex Slaught. UCLA is set to sign outside hitter Nick Porterfield.

UC Santa Barbara has picked up Parker Boehle, the coach’s son who plays libero. And middle blocker Driss Guesseous is set to sign with defending NCAA champion Ohio State.

Loyola has had five players end up at colleges before, including 1995.

I’d say the Cubs are a threat to win the Southern Section Division 1 championship come spring.
