The coaches in the City Section should be thankful they won’t be taking part in seeding this year’s Division I playoffs. They would have quite a shouting match trying to figure out whether San Pedro (9-0) or Dorsey (8-1) deserves the nod.

Dorsey has wins over Serra League champion Alemany, two-time defending Division I champion Crenshaw and almost upset unbeaten Redlands East Valley. That’s a pretty good case and schedule in favor of the Dons.

But all San Pedro does is keep winning. Back-to-back victories over Carson and Narbonne in the Marine League makes the Pirates tough not to pick.

And then which teams deserve to be No. 3 and No. 4? It’s not going to be easy, because parity has come to the City Section this season.

Also, what happens if San Pedro goes 14-0? The Pirates would be bowl eligible, but their schedule isn’t considered strong enough to challenge the Pac-5, Northern and Inland Division champions for the two bowl spots.

There’s going to be lots of intrigue in the coming weeks.
