West Adams has been open for five years, so there can be little doubt that the team’s 26-25 victory over two-time defending City Section Division I champion Crenshaw ranks as the best in school history.

‘It felt like we had won a championship,’ Coach Russell Shaw said.

Trayvon Watson made an interception as time expired while Crenshaw was trying to pull off a Hail Mary final play.

‘For a school like us and a team like us to pull off an upset is big in the City,’ Shaw said.

Cory Butler was a key player, scoring a touchdown and breaking off a couple of long runs.

West Adams (5-5) finishes second in the Coliseum League behind Dorsey.

‘Each week, we get better and better,’ Shaw said. ‘From beginning until now, we never took a step back.’
