Boys’ basketball: Alemany shows off athleticism, talent

Mission Hills Alemany, ranked No. 11 by The Times, is scheduled to play No. 2 Los Angeles Loyola in two Mission League games, but the two schools are on a collision course to meet on Saturday in the championship game of the Santa Monica tournament.

Alemany (2-0) showed off its athleticism and talent in a 77-60 quarterfinal rout of Palisades. Max Guercy and KJ Moffett had 19 points apiece and Marqueze Coleman added 15 points. The Warriors will face Los Angeles Price in a semifinal game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Loyola defeated El Camino Real, 70-62. The Cubs will face Fairfax on Friday. Julian Harrell had 18 points and Trey Mason 12 points.

El Camino Real, which starts four sophomores, made an impression on the Cubs. ‘They played real hard and forced us into some bad decisions,’ Loyola Coach Jamal Adams said. ‘Their future is extremely bright.’

In a consolation game of the Santa Monica tournament, Birmingham defeated Corona Centenial, 65-62. Marcus Harris had 24 points for Birmingham. Sam Finley had 24 points for Centennial.

In the Westchester tournament, Gardena Serra defeated St. Bernard, 72-61. Dakarai Tucker had 19 points. Westchester defeated Long Beach Jordan, 69-52.

In the Moorpark tournament, Jackson Miller made a layup with under four seconds left to give Oaks Christian a 63-62 win over Simi Valley Royal. Chass Bryan had 23 points.

In the University tournament, Sherman Oaks Buckley advanced to the final with a 61-38 win over Reseda. Tyler Coppin Carter had 22 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Austin Butler had 12 points and seven steals. Banning defeated North Hollywood, 62-46. Los Angeles defeated Huntington Park College Ready, 65-51.

La Verne Lutheran stayed unbeaten with an 87-24 win over Chino. Grant Jerrett had 25 points and 10 rebounds.

In the Crescenta Valley tournament, Simi Valley defeated South Pasadena, 74-45. DJ Saul scored 20 points and was five for five on three-pointers.
