The trial in a 2010 lawsuit filed by the Diocese of Orange and Santa Ana Mater Dei against the CIF Southern Section that was scheduled to begin late next month has been delayed, Mater Dei attorney Jerome Jackson said Tuesday.

A trial conference has been scheduled for November. Both sides are proceeding with discovery and depositions.

The lawsuit accuses the Southern Section of acting in a ‘discriminatory manner’ in how rules are enforced and applied toward Mater Dei athletes.

On Thursday, the Southern Section Council is scheduled to vote on a proposal from the Trinity League that would remove all references to ‘athletically motivated transfer’ from the Southern Section and CIF rule books. The proposal has the backing of Mater Dei.
