So ESPN has ranked its top left-handed and right-handed pitchers in the nation, and guess who’s No. 1? They come from the same high school -- Harvard-Westlake.

Max Fried is the left-hander and Lucas Giolito the right-hander.

It’s hard to believe another high school has had the No. 1 lefty and righty pitchers on the same team, but Harvard-Westlake lucked out when Montclair Prep dropped its sports program, causing Fried to transfer in.

Pitching goes a long ways to winning championships, but you also need defense and a little hitting. Harvard-Westlake will be very tough but certainly isn’t unbeatable. And since the Wolverines open Mission League play next month against a good Alemany team, let’s hold off on the coronation ceremony for a while.
