Amino South Los Angeles has reached its first City Section small schools championship game, but the team will be without its head coach, Louie Nelson, for Saturday’s 11 a.m. game against View Park at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Nelson, in his fourth season, resigned shortly before Friday’s semifinal game against Sherman Oaks CES in a disagreement with the school administration.

He said Tuesday he had been trying to receive his $1,800 coaching stipend, and that was the final dispute that pushed him to resign.

Marco Petruzzi, chief executive for Green Dot Public Schools, which runs Animo South Los Angeles, said Nelson had ‘resigned for other reasons.’

Petruzzi said a check had been issued to Nelson, but it was sent to an old address.

Athletic director Roger McCray took over coaching the team against Sherman Oaks CES and will be running the team on Saturday.
