Baseball: Loyola sends a clear message in Mission League

Harvard-Westlake and Alemany were supposed to be the teams to beat in Mission League baseball, but it’s Los Angeles Loyola (15-5-1, 6-1) that holds down first place, and the Cubs made sure everyone should start paying attention after a 5-0 victory over Alemany on Tuesday at Loyola.
Kevin Carswell (7-1) outpitched Alemany ace Cody Thompson (6-1), throwing a three-hitter. He struck out one and walked four. Joey Viole and Jack Welsh each had two doubles for Loyola, which faces Alemany again on Thursday.
‘He’s just a competitor,’ Loyola Coach Brian Felten said of Carswell.
Harvard-Westlake held off Chaminade, 6-5. Arden Pabst had two doubles and three RBIs. Joe Corrigan hit a two-run home run. Jack Flaherty took over for Max Fried in the fifth and picked up the save.
Crespi defeated St. Francis, 21-1. Andy Frakes had two hits and four RBIs. Morgan Grisham had two hits and three RBIs. Nicky Linton and Andre Angel Bello added two hits apiece.
