Track & Field: Loyola takes 4x800 relay at Mt. SAC

In one of the most exciting races of the day, Los Angeles Loyola won the Invitational 4x800 at the Mt. SAC Relays, clocking seven minutes, 44.35 seconds to overtake runner-up San Ramon Valley (7:50.28) and Redondo (7:51.09).

The Cubs’ foursome earned 20 points towards the overall team title. Through four events, Loyola has 28 points to lead the boys competition. Rancho Cucamonga (20) is in second while San Ramon Valley and Arcadia are tied for third with 16 points apiece. The two-day meet concludes Saturday.

Several field events have also been completed. In the Open division, Shane Staton of Murrieta Mesa won the boys triple jump with a distance of 44 feet, six inches. Arroyo Grande’s Alex Mero won the girls triple jump with a distance of 35’ 8.’

Desert’s Kyle Wilson won the boys discus, throwing 160 feet, eight inches while Raegan Henderson of Claremont took first place in the girls discus with a top throw of 124 feet, one inch.

Justin Barlow of Temecula Great Oak won the boys shot put with a throw of 51’ 1.25’ and Cathleen Nguyen of Walnut won the girls pole vault with a height of 10 feet, six inches.
