Track & Field: Khalfani Muhammad wins 200 meters

Khalfani Muhammad, a junior sprinter from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, is turning the Mt. SAC Relays into his personal showcase.

Having already won the 100 meters and anchored the Knights’ first-place 4x100 relay, Muhammad blazed to victory in the Invitational 200 meters in a state-leading 21.32 seconds. Elijah Mitchell of Corona Roosevelt was second in 21.34 seconds, the second-fastest clocking in California this season. Morgan Simon of Los Angeles Loyola won the seeded race in 21.55.

La Troya Franklin of Long Beach Jordan won the girls Invitational 200 in 24.05. Ashlie Curenton of Silverado won the girls 200 seeded race in 24.33.

Temecula Great Oak won the boys Invitational sprint medley in 3:26.37. Bellflower St. John Bosco came in second in 3:28.78 and La Verne Damien was third in 3:30.68. Long Beach Poly was runner-up to Littleton, Colorado in the girls Invitational sprint medley with a time of 4:08.15. Poly’s Traci Hicks won the 100 Invitational hurdles in 13.32 seconds.

Long Beach Poly has a commanding 40-point lead over second-place Gardena Serra in the girls team standings. Notre Dame leads the boys competition with 67 points, 10 more than Great Oak. Oxnard Rio Mesa is third with 44 points.
