Football: Beware of Jack Savage at Servite

Seemingly every season, Anaheim Servite unveils a newcomer who comes out of nowhere to make an impact at the varsity level.

This year’s player could be sophomore Jack Savage. Coach Troy Thomas said Savage, 6 feet 2, 203 pounds, is one of the team’s 11-best defensive players. Savage could start at linebacker or on the defensive line. He was a standout on the Friars’ outstanding freshman team last season.

He’s physical, strong and tough. He’s the son of UCLA baseball Coach John Savage.

The Friars have five other sophomores to watch in linebacker-running back Havilli Eteaki, receivers Tony Brown and Michael Flynn and linemen Clayton Johnston and Austin Thomas.

Servite returns to practice on Monday after taking its 21-day dead period.
