Football: 10 South East players are removed from team

The fallout from an alleged hazing incident involving members of the South East High School football team continues.

Ten varsity players, including six starters, have been removed from the team for the rest of the season for their participation in the incident, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Unified School District.

An incident involving players occurred on Aug. 29 in the locker room when players allegedly roughed up a freshman player. Coach Derwin Henderson said he was not present but learned of the incident and reported it the next morning to Noel Bautista, the athletic director. Henderson said he was fired Sept. 4 for not following protocol and has since received a letter from the LAUSD telling him to stay away from South East.

Also, Bautista is no longer handling athletic director duties.

South East, which started the year as the favorite to win the City Section Division II championship, is 3-1 entering Friday’s Eastern League opener against L.A. Jordan. Roger Satti, who was head coach for seven years at South East, has taken over running the team.
