Who would have guessed that Los Angeles Loyola and Encino Crespi would be each 6-0 going into their Serra League opener on Friday at Crespi?

Yes, Loyola is unbeaten thanks to a forfeit victory over St. John Bosco. And the Cubs’ running game is going quite well after a 24-14 win over Valencia in which backup quarterback Brendan Doney came in for an injured Patrick Finnegan (shoulder) to guide two fourth-quarter touchdown scoring drives, including one from 96 yards.

Cameron Walker is leading the Cubs with his running and play at defensive back.

There aren’t many people who are going to predict a Loyola victory over Crespi. The Celts know they have to stop Loyola’s rushing attack, and they have the defense to do just that.

The question is whether Loyola’s defense can force enough turnovers to stay in the game.
