Granada Hills Kennedy is preparing to name a new baseball coach after closing the position to applicants earlier this week.

Manny Alvarado, the head coach for 24 years, is no longer teaching at Kennedy. He has been facing an LAUSD investigation that the district has declined to discuss after being reassigned on Aug. 14.

Alvarado, who was taken out of the classroom when school started in August, said Thursday he understands his coaching career at Kennedy has come to an end. He guided the Golden Cougars to five City Section championships.

‘Hopefully, they name a good one,’ Alvarado said. ‘I’ve accepted the fact I’ve got no power and the system is the system.’

Alvarado’s son, Marcus, who has been an assistant coach, is among those who have applied for the position. The team has been without a coach for two months. Interviews were supposed to be conducted this week.

Alvarado said he has returned to coaching, serving as an assistant coach for his three grandsons playing youth baseball.
