Football: Servite starts preparing for 2013 after 3-7 season

On Monday, Anaheim Servite players were back in the school weight room preparing for 2013 after finishing their season with a 3-7 record, the worst in Coach Troy Thomas’ 12 years as a high school head coach.
“I take full responsibility for what happened this year,” Thomas said. “Our kids played hard and tried to do the best we asked them to do. I’m working hard to rectify things.”
Thomas has an opening for a new offensive coordinator. He fired his offensive coordinator early in the season. The Friars will return nine starters on offense.
Servite won consecutive Pac-5 Division titles in 2009 and 2010. Thomas said he is revising his thinking on year-round football and will likely have his players participate in more spring and summer passing competitions.
“Because you’re doing so much year-round stuff, younger players can develop quicker,” he said. “I have not done that. We may have to do more than we’ve done because I feel we were a little bit behind in the football part.”
