Boys’ basketball: Freshman Lonzo Ball leads Chino Hills

Lonzo Ball, a 6-foot-3 freshman at Chino Hills, made an impressive varsity debut on Monday night, scoring 26 points in his team’s 97-79 victory over Reseda Cleveland in the Pasadena tournament. Bishop Mency added 22 points.

Chance Murray scored 19 points in Price’s 91-57 win over Ventura.

In the Torrance tournament, Derick Newton scored 19 points and had 17 rebounds in Harvard-Westlake’s 82-53 win over Douglass. Oaks Christian (2-0) defeated Fairfax, 59-52, with Anson Moye scoring 15 points and K.J. Smith scoring 14 points. Loyola defeated Palos Verdes, 78-23. Trey Mason, Andrew Johnson and Mtume Armour each had 12 points.

Jordan Mathews scored 29 points in Santa Monica’s 70-36 win over Torrance.

In the Redondo tournament, top-ranked Long Beach Poly defeated Manual Arts, 86-12.

In the Sierra Vista tournament, Thousand Oaks defeated West Covina, 88-36. Dakota Pierce had 23 points.

In the Mira Costa tournament, Tra Holder scored 24 points and Leland King 23 in Brentwood’s 79-66 win over Culver City.

Dominguez defeated Rancho Christian, 69-50. Earl Morgan scored 18 points. EJ Johnson had 14 points and eight assists.

Calabasas defeated Hoover, 78-61, with Max Hoetzel scoring 28 points.
