Boys’ basketball: Kris Yanku scores 25 points for Taft

The West Valley League season began on Wednesday, and the question is will Taft’s reign as league champs finally end? El Camino Real is the favorite, but the Toreadors started play with a 64-55 win over Granada Hills. Kris Yanku scored 25 points.

Maleke Haynes had 22 points in El Camino Real’s 82-53 win over Cleveland. Birmingham defeated Chatsworth, 63-55. Samson Young scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds.

In the East Valley League, Poly defeated Arleta, 70-45. Cesar Reyes scored 24 points, had 10 steals and 11 rebounds. Grant defeated North Hollywood, 59-54. Sherman Cromartie had 18 points.

In the Coliseum League, Crenshaw defeated Fremont, 73-63. Andre Edwards scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds.

In the Western League, University defeated LACES, 54-48. Breamon Richard scored 17 points.
