There are some high school baseball teams that have already played eight games.

Then there’s Santa Ana Mater Dei, ranked No. 2 by The Times. The Monarchs have played just two games, because they have scheduled two tournaments over their spring break and had to take last week off.

The Monarchs begin to enter a busy part of their schedule with a Trinity League opener on Tuesday at home against Servite. The game has been changed to 3 p.m. because the basketball team will be playing at 7 p.m. against Long Beach Poly.

‘We’re going to be busy over the next four weeks,’ Coach Burt Call said.

Mater Dei opened the season by splitting a doubleheader against Stockton St. Mary’s on March 1. Eleven days later, the Monarchs get to go back onto the field.

‘Finally,’ Call said.

Ace Davis Tominaga is scheduled to pitch against Servite.
