Downey Warren is ranked No. 8 in Southern Section Division 3, but the Bears are 15-3, have won nine consecutive games and hold down first place in the San Gabriel Valley League with a one-game lead over Gahr and Paramount.

Alan Trejo, a transfer from L.A. Cathedral, is 18 for 28 batting since becoming eligible on April 1. ‘I’ve never had a kid in 24 years this hot,’ Coach Scott Pearson said.

In his first season at Warren, Pearson built successful program at L.A. Roosevelt and L.A. Cathedral. Now there are signs the Bears could be a team to watch in Division 3.

‘I told the guys in the winter, ‘It seems every time the other team scored, we scored. I don’t know what it is, but you always answer back.’ That’s the sign of a championship team,’ Pearson said.
