Baseball: Cleveland wins West Valley League title

Reseda Cleveland wrapped up the West Valley League championship on Thursday night by defeating Birmingham, 8-3.

The Cavaliers (21-10, 8-2) received three hits and two RBIs from Andrew Devian and two hits and two RBIs from Reno Rankin.

Steven Perez, after giving up two runs in the first inning and one more in the second, shut out the Patriots over the final five innings. He finished with a four-hitter and struck out six. Cleveland and Valley Mission League champion San Fernando will compete for the No. 1 seed during Saturday’s City Section Division I seeding meeting.

Chatsworth finished in second place after a 6-1 victory over Taft. Chris DeVito hit a three-run home run and had an RBI double. Nick Milone threw a complete game.

El Camino Real defeated Granada Hills, 7-1. Owen Perry allowed three hits in six innings. Yannick Villanueva hit a two-run home run. Nick Snyder had three hits. El Camino Real and Granada Hills tied for third place.

Marshall finished 10-0 in the Northern League after a 5-1 win over Wilson. Angel Lerma struck out 13.

Hamilton won the Western League title with a two-game sweep of University, 12-7, on Thursday and 11-3 on Tuesday. Sophomore Dalton Blumenfield had two home runs over two games.

San Fernando defeated Roosevelt, 3-1. Alonzo Garcia improved to 9-2 with a three-hitter and seven strikeouts. Julio Arias and Rafael Salcedo had two hits each. San Fernando is 28-3.

Poly defeated Garfield, 2-0. Javy Vazquez had two RBIs.
