I dropped by the Gardena Serra weight room on Tuesday, and I thought I must be lost, because there were so many big, powerful athletes I thought I was at a college facility.

It’s no wonder that 12 Serra players have already been offered college football scholarships. There’s talent everywhere, and Coach Scott Altenberg and his assistants are training them for a 16-game schedule in 2013.

There was even an incoming freshman lineman who looked bigger than some seniors. Serra is clearly ready to challenge St. John Bosco, Corona Centennial, Long Beach Poly and anyone else for supremacy in Southern California football.

As for the heavily recruited Adoree’ Jackson, he said he plans to wait until signing day in February to announce his college choice. He said he’ll narrow his list to five before the season begins. Jackson will likely see time at running back this season besides receiver and defensive back after the knee injury to Malik Roberson.

‘I love it, because when I first started playing football, I was a running back,’ Jackson said. ‘Watching Reggie Bush at USC wearing No. 5, I always wanted to do the things he did.’
