John M. Glionna is The Times’ bureau chief in Seoul, South Korea, covering a large swath of the Asia-Pacific region, including North Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and the Pacific Islands. He has been a Times staff writer since 1989, most recently as the newspaper’s San Francisco Bureau Chief. In a journalism career spanning more than three decades, he has also worked at the San Diego Tribune, Kansas City Star and the Virginian Pilot in Norfolk, Va. He graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1980 with a degree in American literature and creative writing.
