A three-week delay of the scheduled hearing on the state’s proposed order to clean up pollution in the Kesterson Wildlife Refuge was requested by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Bureau Regional Solicitor David Lindgren told the state Water Resources Control Board by letter that the agency would not have time by Tuesday to evaluate the proposal, which was disclosed late last week. Lindgren noted that the problems involved with drainage of irrigation waste water in the western San Joaquin Valley are “too complex” to be dealt with hastily.
