Howe Will Undergo Surgery on Elbow
Dodger pitcher Steve Howe will undergo surgery on his left elbow next Wednesday and is not expected to resume throwing until spring training.
Howe, who missed the entire 1984 season after being suspended last winter by then-baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn for drug-related offenses, had gone to the Dominican Republic to play winter ball but returned home after developing elbow trouble.
The operation, to be performed by Dr. Frank Jobe at Centinela Hospital Medical Center, will “adjust the position of the ulna nerve,” according to a team spokesman.
