Costa Mesa : Police Officer Injured in Stop-Light Mishap

Share

A Costa Mesa police officer will be on light duty for a day or two while he recovers from minor injuries suffered in a traffic accident Thursday.

Lt. Tom Durham said the officer, Paul Bedell, 29, suffered hip and chest bruises when his patrol car was struck by a car making a left turn from Adams Avenue onto northbound Harbor Boulevard about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday. Bedell was southbound on Harbor and had stopped at the red light, Durham said.

The other driver, Michael DeWid, 27, of Irvine, “turned too sharp” and struck the front end of the patrol car, Durham said. DeWid apparently was not injured, Durham said. Bedell was treated at Costa Mesa Medical Center.
