Dispute Over Steel Settled

BRUSSELS —
The European Common Market said today that it settled a steel trade dispute with the United States that in recent weeks had escalated nearly to the point of economic warfare.
Spokesman Willy Helin told reporters that the agreement limits European exports of steel tubes and pipes to 7.6% of the U.S. market this year and next. That is a bigger share than agreed to for 1984, but far below the more than 14% share the Europeans actually grabbed last year.
