SCC’s Streak Ends in Portland, 75-67

Share

The University of Portland handed previously undefeated Southern California College its first loss of the season Thursday night, 75-67, in a nonconference game at Portland.

The Vanguards, who had opened the season with 11 straight victories, played without guard Sherwin Durham, who was serving the first game of a five-game suspension because of academic difficulties.

SCC was as close as four points at 71-67 with one minute to play but blew a chance to cut the Pilots’ lead to two points when Greg Ward missed a shot. Portland, which had lost five straight after opening the season with eight consecutive wins, then scored the final four points of the game to secure the win.
