SCC Loses Its Second Straight, 80-65

After losing its first game of the season Thursday night, Southern California College lost again Friday night to Warner-Pacific, 80-65, in a nonconference game at Warner-Pacific.

Marshall Haskins paced Warner-Pacific with 19 points. SCC, disappointed after its 11-game winning streak ended with a 75-67 loss to the University of Portland, also was suffering from the absence of senior guard Sherwin Durham, one of the Vanguards’ most consistent and highest-scoring players. Durham was forced to sit out both Thursday and Friday’s games after being benched for academic reasons.

Junior guard Ken Bardsley, who paced the Vanguards Thursday night with 18 points, had a poor shooting night, making only 1 of 9 from the field.

“We were suffering from an emotional let down,” assistant coach Larry Hirst said. “We were very disappointed after losing to Portland and did not execute our offenses and defenses.”

Senior forward Greg Ward led the Vanguards with 15 points. Center Mike Bruce and senior forward Neal Anderson had 14 points each.
