San Clemente : Rules Adopted on Placement, Size of Satellite Dish Antennae
Regulations for the placement and size of satellite dish antennae have been adopted for the first time in the city.
The antennae will be restricted to 10 feet in height and 10 feet in diameter and will be prohibited on rooftops or any other parts of residential buildings. However, they will be allowed on commercial buildings if they meet the height limits of the area.
Under the new ordinance, owners must obtain a city building permit before installation and must screen the antennae from view of adjacent properties. Standards for the screening and guidelines for the type and color of the dishes will be established by the city’s Community Design Commission.
The new law allows the antennae in residential front and back yards if they don’t encroach on setback areas, the required minimum distance between a property line and house.
The ordinance goes into effect in February. Those who currently have satellite antennae erected will be exempt, City Manager Jim Hendrickson said.
