Safe Smoking? Don’t Hold Your Breath
An Indonesian scientist says cigarette smoking will no longer be hazardous to your health--in a million years or so.
Dr. Soewasono Adisewojo of Gaja Mada University in Jakarta says human beings eventually will be able to safely puff away on all the cigarettes they please, because evolution will make the body immune to nicotine and other components of tobacco smoke that cause cancer and heart disease.
The Jakarta Post quoted Adisewojo as saying man has been inhaling tobacco smoke for only 500 years and has not had time to build up a resistance.
