The Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to increase fees charged to private groups for rental of school district facilities.

District spokesman Richard Van Der Laan said the main reason behind the rise in fees was an increase in the cost of utilities. As a result, private groups that used to pay $344 to rent a high school auditorium for up to four hours now will be charged $530. The fee includes five hours of custodial service.

Use of a high school athletic field for five hours will cost $405 instead of $301. And two-hour use of a tennis or volleyball court will now cost $35 instead of $21.25.
