Two groups of students from Bolsa Grande High School confronted each other across Westminster Avenue in Garden Grove on Thursday in an incident that ended after a student fired a shot from a handgun, apparently without inflicting any injuries, police said.

A 15-year-old male student, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was arrested later Thursday at his home on suspicion of “displaying a weapon and possession of a concealable weapon,” according to Lt. Larry Hodges of the Garden Grove Police Department.

About 1:15 p.m. Thursday, a group of about 20 to 25 male youths from Bolsa Grande High School were gathered on the north side of Westminster Avenue near Erin Street, a location not far from the high school, and another group of about 10 to 15 male students were on the south side of the avenue, Hodges said.

One of the students in the larger group “pulled a revolver from his waist area and displayed it toward the group located on the other side of the street,” Hodges said. He said a second student “displayed another handgun and fired the weapon” in the direction of the smaller group.

Hodges said police were not aware of any injuries arising from the incident.
