Stanton : Ex-Official’s Hearing Postponed for 2 Months

Share

A pretrial hearing for Frank Marshott, the former Stanton councilman facing three misdemeanor charges over an alleged conflict of interest, was postponed for two months Thursday to give his attorney time to file defense motions.

The hearing was set for March 4 and the trial for March 28 in West Orange County Municipal Court, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. James T. Reilly.

In November, two weeks after losing a bid for an unprecedented fifth council term, Marshott pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A week before the election, the district attorney’s office charged Marshott with illegally voting to raise trash-collection rates while his insurance firm had financial ties to the Stanton Disposal Co., the city’s rubbish collector.

If convicted, Marshott could receive a fine of $500 and six months in prison for each of the three counts. Also, if convicted, he would be barred from seeking elective office for four years, under the Political Reform Act of 1974.

The former veteran councilman--first elected in 1966--is the owner of Marshott Insurance of Westminster, which sold insurance to the disposal company.
