An organization has proposed returning drag racing to Terminal Island and adding a slalom course for sport cars, as well as facilities for spectators and parking. The National and International Brotherhood of Street Racers Inc. asked the Los Angeles Harbor Commission to let them reopen the Brotherhood Raceway Park, which has been closed since last April, Harbor Department spokeswoman Julia Nagano said. The facility was closed because the Port of Los Angeles needed the space, she said. The organization has asked for a permit to build a two-mile road course, a quarter-mile drag strip and other facilities on 30 acres of land near the port. The commission, saying that 30 acres are not available, directed staff to meet with the group’s representatives to try to work out an agreement.
