General Motors will spend about $400 million to expand the Pontiac facility for the production of pickup trucks beginning in the 1987 model year. Two thousand of the plant’s 2,900 employees are expected to be transferred to another Pontiac facility where medium and heavy-duty truck production will be consolidated. When the plant reopens in 1986, it is expected to provide 2,000 new jobs.
