Officer Accused of Using Position to Gain Information
A Los Angeles police detective has been charged with using his position to obtain information from other government agencies, then passing it on to clients of his private security firm.
In a criminal complaint filed Friday in Los Angeles Municipal Court, John Vach, 37, was accused of three misdemeanors for allegedly leading officials from the U.S. Customs Service, the state Department of Motor Vehicles and the state Department of Justice to believe that he was requesting information on two citizens for police purposes.
The complaint charged Vach, a 16-year police veteran who was assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Division, with a fourth misdemeanor for allegedly passing the information on to his own private clients.
Vach moonlighted by operating two businesses--JXV Security and Falcon Executive Protection Service--according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Edward Ferns, who filed the complaint.
Vach, who has since been reassigned to Newton Division detectives, is to be arraigned on the charges Feb. 13.
