Liberia Closes Newspaper

MONROVIA, Liberia —
The Daily Observer, Liberia’s only independent newspaper, was closed down by the government Wednesday. The paper was closed for six months last year after the government of military leader Samuel K. Doe accused it of encouraging dissension.
