MOSCOW — The Soviet Union announced Wednesday that it has launched six satellites into orbit from a single carrier rocket.
The official news agency Tass said the satellites--numbers 1,617 through 1,622 in the Cosmos series--were launched Tuesday and carry instruments intended to continue studies of space. Tass reported that the instruments were functioning normally.
Multiple launchings from one rocket have been carried out in the past by the Soviet Union.
