Charges Pending on Moses

An official police report on the arrest of Olympic hurdler Edwin Moses is expected to reach the Los Angeles city attorney’s office today, and authorities then will decide whether to file criminal charges against him.

Moses, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was arrested early Sunday morning for soliciting a female police officer posing as a prostitute, and for possessing a small amount of marijuana.

Deputy City Atty. Mike Wilkinson said Wednesday that he had erroneously said earlier in the week that criminal charges had been filed against Moses, 29, of Laguna Hills.

Wilkinson refused to comment on charges by Moses’ attorney, Harold Lipton of West Los Angeles, that the three-time Olympian is a victim of police entrapment.

Lipton said Moses will plead not guilty if he is charged at his arraignment Jan. 29. Lipton said Moses had no intention of engaging in a sexual act with a prostitute.

Moses was picked up early Sunday during a weekend vice squad sweep of the Hollywood area that resulted in 82 arrests. He was booked and later released on his own recognizance.
