Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives Thursday asked for public assistance in identifying a young woman whose partly decomposed body was found Wednesday in the Angeles National Forest, about seven miles north of Lake View Terrace.

The girl, a black female 15 to 17 years old, died of several gunshot wounds to the upper body, said Sgt. Rene Laport.

The body was found in bushes off Little Tujunga Road about 9 a.m. Wednesday after deputies on patrol spotted red clothing the girl was wearing and stopped to investigate, said Deputy Richard Shaw.

Investigators believe the girl was shot Sunday or Monday.

The girl was described as 4 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 111 pounds, with loosely curled black hair and protruding front teeth. She was wearing a lightweight red jacket, red Levi pants with a design of small black flecks, red socks and a black T-shirt with a horse insignia, Shaw said.
