The Look of Androgyny

Share

Boy George Fashion & Make-up Book by Wayne Winder, Gerardine Winder and Christina Saunders (Gallery Books: $3.98). This is an ideal book for people who want to look like other people or for social historians who find significance in such details of pop culture as the precise shades of blusher worn by androgynous pop stars of the 1980s. Essentially, this “book” is more like a 63-page magazine with large color photos of Boy George and step-by-step, how-to text for simulating his costumes, hats and makeup styles. Best of all are the direct quotes from George himself--lines such as “I wear makeup and dress this way because I think it makes me look better. I am not doing it to get people to stare at me. If I wanted to do that I could just put a pot on my head, wear a wedding dress and run screaming down the street.”
