BRIEFLY : Eastern Air will end wage-concession deductions.

The airline agreed to return $22 million already deducted from employees’ paychecks under a wage-concession agreement that was extended into 1985 without union approval, a labor mediator said. The agreement clears the way for the resumption of contract talks between Miami-based Eastern’s management and the machinists union. A year ago, the financially troubled carrier reached an agreement with its 37,000 employees that gave workers 25% of the company’s stock and four seats on its board in return for wage concessions of at least 18%.
