No ‘City of Industry’

The growing opposition to the trash-burning plant in San Marcos is increasingly evident by the large groups of residents attending the council meetings, speaking out in a well-informed manner. Both professional and retired-professional citizenry have come forth with suggestions that would serve the needs of the people in a much safer way than the proposed five-story high monolith with a 30-story smokestack!

After listening to many nights of testimony at planning and council meetings, it seems clear to me the proponents are more interested in selling us a plant that they won’t have to live with . . . but we will . . . for some 35 to 50 years! Is this plant really something we need to live with? I don’t think so.

We don’t need, or want, a “City of Industry” in rural North County, and most likely property values would be adversely affected because more heavy manufacturing would follow.

If, as they say, the proponents really were concerned for the safety of local residents and the wildlife and the beautiful nature surrounding the plant, they would heed the growing protests from North County citizens and stop trying to build their plant anywhere in North County and give up this dangerous and polluting proposal. Let it be up to the citizens who live here to freely and wisely choose the finest way to handle our trash.
